From CoE to HiCoE

CISIR started as a research lab in 2000 in the area of image and signal processing. It became a UTP leading research cluster in 2005. On 15 Dec 2008, CISIR was established as a university research centre. CISIR re-aligned its research focus to UTP Mission Oriented Research in Biomedical Technology in 2009. On 2 August 2012, CISIR became UTP's first  Centre of Excellence (CoE) after successfully meeting UTP CoE criteria. 


In Feb 2013, UTP applied to Ministry Of Education (MOE) for HiCOE status and qualified for site audit that was conducted by MOE HiCoE Panel of Assessors on 21-22 Oct 2013. CISIR successfully passed the site audit and UTP received an offer letter in August 2014 to award CISIR HiCoE status.

 

Centre for Intelligent Signal & Imaging Research (CISIR) has been recognized by Ministry of Education (MOHE) as the National Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICOE) status focusing on Neurochemical Imaging as its research niche area in 2014. CISIR conduct translational research in brain that includes Brain Pathways and Mental States. It studies characteristic and function of the brain through advanced signal and imaging processing techniques. CISIR promotes R&D culture through collaborative and translational research with local and overseas research institutions, hospitals and industry. CISIR provide platform to understand the problem from medical professional and society and bring the solutions that can assist them to improve their quality of life.

 CISIR atau lebih dikenali sebagai Pusat Penyelidikan Isyarat Neuro dan Pengimejan Pintar telah diiktiraf oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi (KPT) sebagai Pusat Kecemerlangan Pendidikan Tinggi (HiCoE) yang memberi tumpuan kepada Pengimejan Neuro Kimia sebagai bidang nic pada tahun 2014. CISIR menjalankan penyelidikan dalam kajian berkaitan otak termasuklah kajian mengenai keadaan mental otak manusia dan pemindahan isyarat otak. Ia mengkaji ciri dan fungsi otak menggunakan teknik isyarat lanjutan dan proses pengimejan. CISIR mempromosikan budaya R&D melalui jaringan kerjasama dan kajian dua hala dengan institusi penyelidikan di dalam dan luar  negara, hospital dan juga industry. CISIR menyediakan platfom untuk memahami masalah dari perspektif ahli perubatan dan masyarakat dalam masa yang sama dapat membantu mereka meningkatkan kualiti hidup.

 

NEURPCHEMICAL IMAGING is essentially translational research that involves use of various modalities (acquisition) and neuroimaging techniques to either directly or indirectly image the structure, function/pharmacology of the brain and the human body, in order to understand basic neurochemical disturbances and analyse (model and quantify) physiology and functions, and examine disease conditions for medical science and clinical purposes. It is a relatively new area within medicine and neuroscience/psychology.


This was announced at a ceremony officiated by Education Minister II, Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh on 9 October 2014.

As HiCoE, CISIR will have the following activities:

  • Conduct translational research in neuro chemical imaging that includes brain pathways, mental states and imaging of cartilage
  • Develop innovative tools for quantitative EEG analysis and portable Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) grading.
  • Establish regional and international collaborative network in neuro informatics, and medical cloud for big data analytics.
  • Conduct international meetings, workshops, and short courses.
